See All the Best Jewelry From the Met Gala

The higher the headdress, the closer to God? The concept may not be in any fashion rule book, but at the 2018 Met Gala,Pandora Rings UK it seemed to apply. With guests pulling out all the stops for the “Heavenly Bodies” theme, jewelry took on a celestial quality. Big-ticket ornamentation of the traditional variety made its way onto the red carpet in the form of oversize rings and ornate earrings, but guests were also eager to channel religious art through their jewels. Arriving in their own personal halos, or with crosses and rosaries adorning their gowns, they upped the ante by referencing Byzantine or Renaissance depictions of saints and deities.

Pandora Rings Sale Everyone had their own take on the theme. Rihanna wrapped strands of pearls around her ankles; Lena Waithe’s flowing pride cape came adorned with oversize Verdura brooches; and Madonna lived up to her name with a towering crucifix-covered crown. Needless to say, the stakes were high, and the best jewelry on display didn’t just shine. It stood out in a sea of dramatic fashion. Our appreciation for Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen’s Met Gala style is well documented. Each year, they happily resist anything trendy, scandalous, or even new, for that matter, almost exclusively opting for one-off vintage finds. Their outfits provide a welcome break from look-at-me naked dresses and other publicity stunts, but for serious fashion fans, what they wear is also like a game of trivia. Were last year’s lacy Miss Havisham dresses actually vintage Christian Lacroix? (We’re still not sure.) Did you recognize the clementine Dior couture gown Ashley wore in 2012? What about Mary-Kate’s red Givenchy dress from the “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty” party in 2011?

Pandora Bracelets Our expectations were particularly high for last night’s “Heavenly Bodies” red carpet, given each sister’s proclivity for monastic silhouettes and rich fabrics. They’re not just the patron saints of vintage—they’ve helped steer fashion in a more modest, serene direction with their collections for The Row. Would they wear archival Balenciaga, vintage Dior by John Galliano, or long, elegant robes of their own design? None of the above, actually. At first glance, even a hard-core history fan might not recognize their ensembles: Both were vintage Paco Rabanne. Ashley’s patchwork silk moire caftan looked plucked from his ’70s archives, while Mary-Kate’s look involved a vintage Rabanne chain mail–detail tunic over her own black The Row dress. Styled with big, beaded necklaces, jeweled headbands, and loose waves, the vibe was Renaissance-meets-rad—and might just inspire Rabanne’s current designer, Julien Dossena, to revisit the house’s more bohemian roots.
